DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE OVERSIGHT

One of the most important functions performed by the Senate Armed Services Committee is providing oversight for the programs and operations of the Department of Defense. The committee conducts numerous hearings on issues such as lessons learned from military operations, plans for transforming the military, and efforts to improve the management of the Department of Defense.

Since becoming chairman in January 2007, Senator Levin has established an investigations staff to enhance the committee's oversight capability.
